In early March, students from Harker’s Model UN attended the 74th Berkeley Model UN Conference (BMUN), held at University of California Berkeley. The longest-running Model UN conference in the world, BMUN attracts more than 2,000 high school students each year.
During the event, students participated in committee discussions on artificial intelligence’s impact on labor, literacy in the age of digital media and nuclear early warnings.
Several students also received honors at the event, frosh Shivaani Venkatesh and Tvisha Singh earning Commendations in the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and classmate Ushnish Chatterjee winning Best Delegate in the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) committee.
France representatives Pratulya Rangavazzala and Nirav Adavikolanu, both juniors, were awarded with Commendations in the Disarmament and International Security Committee (ISEC), while fellow juniors Dhanya Ramanan and Vivaan Sahay were recognized as Outstanding Delegates for their work in the UN Trade and Development (UNCTAD) committee. Finally, senior Spencer Chang, who represented Singapore, received a Commendation Award in the International Labor Organization.
