Harker students place high, win honors at Stanford Math Tournament

Last month, Harker students posted impressive results at the Stanford Math Tournament, held at the Stanford University campus. More than 130 teams participated in the event, with Harker fielding three. Harker’s “Omega” team – consisting of juniors Shamik Khowala, Hengrui Liang, Andrew Shin and Haofang Zhu; and sophomores Vihaan Gupta and Aaravn Mann – placed second overall, first in the Team Round (consisting of a series of short-answer questions), fourth place in the Power Round, which focuses on a single topic, and third in the Guts Round, where teams solved problems one at a time, submitting  their solutions before receiving the next problem.

The “Zeta” team – juniors Kristiyan Kurtev, Jonathan Li, Cameron Rampell and Elaine Xu; and sophomores Jeffery Wang and Lucas Yuan – placed 10th overall and eighth in the Power Round. Harker team “Delta” – sophomore Benjamin Li and froshes Mark Han, David He, Rohan Rajaram and Ethan Weyn – took sixth place in the Guts Round.
