Eagle Update: Boys golf remains undefeated, track and field opens strong

This story was submitted by Dan Molin, upper school athletic director.

On Thursday, in a battle of the unbeatens, the Harker boys golf team defeated Nueva and Sacred Heart Prep to take sole possession of first place in WBAL. Sophomore Justin Hu went birdie-birdie on holes seven and eight, finishing with an impressive one under par 34 at Stanford Golf Course, earning his first medalist honors of the season. Hu set the tone by beating his opponents by six strokes, with the Eagles edging Nueva by eight total strokes.

Freshmen Mason Tamashiro (38), Ernie Singh (39) and Aditya Daniel (40) continue to support the team’s winning ways early in the season. The win answered a two-stroke tournament loss to Nueva just three days earlier on the same course. The Eagles finished also tied for third at the Sequoia Invitational, which helped the team gauge its position in the Central Coast Section, as the field was stacked with CCS heavyweights. Harker had five scores in the 70’s on a Stanford course with high rough. Justin (72; 15th), Ernie (74; 24th), Mason (74; 24th), Aditya (78, 39th), Vivek (79; 44th) Sam (83; 70th).

Senior Maryanne Davies placed second in the 400 meters with a personal record of 58.43 at the K-Bell Invitational at Westmont High on Saturday, as Harker opened the track and field season. In all, 17 Eagles competed and combined for eight personal bests, including junior Alice Luo’s 50.40 in the 300 hurdles for ninth and junior Samaara Patil’s 5:28.64 in the 1,600 for 12th. Track and field will next compete March 20-21 at meets held at Dublin High, Fremont High and Saint Francis.

Softball defeated Lynbrook last week 12-9 to earn their league-opening win.  The team travels to Santa Clara Tuesday and hosts MacDonald on Thursday at Stratford-Blackford.

On Tuesday, varsity girls lacrosse played their first official game since the spring of 2024 on the road against Presentation. Though they fell by an eventual score of 16 – 4, the girls played with competitive spirit, enthusiastic teamwork and infectious energy, improving in every quarter. Senior Audrey Dagum, frosh Masha Sokolova and frosh Mia Ji (2) contributed goals. Sophomore Samantha Teachworth made her first-ever start in goal and demonstrated impressive composure and leadership.  The team travels to Wilcox this Friday.

Baseball went 2-1 last week, highlighted by an early league victory over Priory 11-7 Wednesday.  Center fielder Ryan Pham, grade 11, led the team with three hits and two RBIs. The team plays Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday this week in non-league contests.

Boys JV Volleyball went 3-1 at the SHCP Tournament Saturday and placed fifth overall. Both JV and varsity have crucial matches Wednesday and Friday vs. Monta Vista and Los Gatos, respectively, at the Harker Athletic Center.
