Over the weekend, recent graduate Brady Tse made Harker history as the first student athlete to win two individual titles in the Central Coast Section track and field championships, held Saturday at Gilroy High School. He won both the 110-meither high hurdles, running 13.73, and the 300 intermediate hurdles with a school and personal record of 36.62, also the fourth-fastest time in CCS history. Tse has advanced to the CIF State Championships at Buchanan High in Clovis on Friday and Saturday, with the state’s best time in the 300 hurdles and seventh-best (13.70) in the 110 highs.
Meanwhile, junior Samaara Patil became the first Harker athlete to advance to a CCS final in the 800 meters, placing 11th in 2:17.14. Patil also anchored the girls’ 4×800 relay team to 11th in 10:00.19, breaking their own week-old school record by one second. Frosh Sophie Shen, junior Ava Alvarez and recent graduate Emily Bryan preceded Patil in the relay order.
Boys Tennis made Harker history as well, making the finals of the Nor Cal Regional Tennis Championship. On Friday, the team defeated Davis 6-1 and Redwood 4-3 to advance to Saturday’s final vs. league foe Menlo. The thrilling match was highlighted by all four singles matches going to a third and deciding set. Though the Eagles fell 5-2, this marks the first time in boys tennis history of making the Nor Cal final with a second-place finish in the entire region.
