For the second consecutive year, Harker has reached the finals of the National Economics Challenge. Juniors Vardaan Ghai, Alex Guo, Andrew Smith and Cynthia Wang will head to New York City for the national finals, which take place May 20-22. The competition will consist of a critical thinking round, from which the top four teams will advance, and a quiz bowl round, the winner of which will be declared the national champions.
The winner of the competition will then participate in the Council for Economic Education’s international quiz bowl round against the top team from China, which takes place that same weekend.
The Harker team qualified for the state finals by taking an online exam and followed up by winning the state finals, becoming one of the nation’s six best teams.
Harker’s team also won last year’s NEC and went on to defeat China’s team in the international quiz bowl.
