Speech and Debate takes top spot among schools at Tournament of Champions

Harker speech and debate students had another strong performance at this year’s Tournament of Champions, held at the University of Kentucky, winning Overall Best School in addition to many individual accomplishments, listed below.

Alice Luo and Leon Le, both grade 11 — Finals of Public Forum Debate, second and third place speakers

Sanjith Senthil, grade 11 — Semifinals of Lincoln-Douglas Debate (outcome TBA)

Angelina Antony, grade 12 — Quarterfinals of Lincoln-Douglas Debate

Sofia Shah, grade 12 — Octofinals of Lincoln-Douglas Debate

Sidd Daswani, Lucas Cao and Nikhil Bawa, all grade 11  — Double Octofinals of Lincoln-Douglas Debate

Joy Hu, grade 12 — Quarterfinals of Extemporaneous Speaking

Kayla Chen and Demi Zheng, grade 11 — Quarterfinals of Original Oratory

Zooey Lan, grade 9 — Quarterfinals of Informative Speaking

Upper school debate teacher expressed her admiration for the other students who qualified for this year’s Tournament of Champions, “an achievement that is extremely difficult to earn, and their preliminary round performances contributed significantly to our number one overall ranking,” she said. Students who qualified to compete are: Rohan Ahuja, Ishaan Dhillon-Patel, Avi Gupta, Manan Gupta, Avelin Jing, Aiden Lin, Sunay Miduthuri, Tara Prem, Vishwa Vijay, Amber Wang, Albert Yao, Evan Yuan, Keji Yuan and Sophia Zhu.
