In June, senior Aditya Shivakumar and junior Trisha Shivakumar were named California’s Top Young Water Scientists for 2025 by the California Water Environment Association. This recognition came after they were announced the 2025 winners of the California Stockholm Junior Water Prize for their project, which examined how low-cost sensors can help reduce water pollution. It also won a second-place prize at the 2025 California Science and Engineering Fair. The CWEA also recognized the pair for working with the Santa Clara Valley Water Youth Commission as well as their volunteering efforts for National River Cleanup Day and Coastal Cleanup Day, for which they received a gold Presidential Volunteer Service Award.
As the state winners, Aditya and Trisha represented California at the national level of the Stockholm Junior Water Prize competition, held at Washington University in St. Louis.
