Upper school math teacher receives Edyth May Sliffe Award

Upper school math teacher Anu Aiyer was recently named a recipient of the 2023-24 Edyth May Sliffe Award, given by the Mathematical Association of America (MAA) to middle and high school teachers who motivate students in mathematics by encouraging outstanding participation in the MAA’s American Mathematics Competitions (AMC).

The recognition also comes with a cash prize, and free registration and travel to the 2024 MAA MathFest, which will take place in August in Indianapolis.

Aiyer expressed her gratitude in a statement to MAA, saying, “Teaching can inspire the next generation like no other profession. Winning this award is a huge honor for me, recognizing the impactful journey from Silicon Valley to the classroom.”

Previously, middle school math teacher Vandana Kadam won the award in 2021 and 2018, both years she was eligible.
