Students and recent graduate featured at National History Day National Contest

Two current Harker students and a recent graduate were recently chosen to showcase their work at last week’s National History Day National Contest in College Park, Md. Rising senior Rahul Sundaresan received The Ancient Order of Hibernians Irish or Irish-American History Prize for his paper about the role of the Royal Irish Constabulary in the Irish War of Independence.

The sibling duo of Felix Chen ’25 and rising sophomore Augusta Chen, who was unable to attend the contest, was also chosen to present in College Park for their paper on the Double V campaign, which fought to grant rights to Black Americans during World War II.

Both papers were selected to be featured at the National Contest at the National History Day State Competition in Sacramento in May. Zooey Lan, who competed as a middle school student and will start grade 9 in the upcoming fall semester, won at the county level in the Junior Division Historical Paper category.

National History Day is a non-profit education organization that fosters interest in history in students in grades 6-12 through a variety of programs, including the National Contest, which features the top two projects submitted at affiliate contests held around the country as well as in Puerto Rico and other United States territories.
