Seventh grader cast in premier of play directed by Tony Award winner

Seventh grader Valentina Mottl has been cast in the world premier of “A Whynot Christmas Carol,” directed by the Tony Award-winning Pam MacKinnon. The production, which will run at the Toni Rembe Theater in San Francisco from Nov. 26-Dec. 4, features Mottl in the role Bethel. Penned by two-time Off-Broadway Theater Award winner Craig Lucas, the play is billed as a humorous adaptation of Charles Dickens’ famous Christmastime story. Mottl has been training and auditioning as a member of American Conservatory Theater’s (ACT) Young Conservatory since last year, and has performed at venues such as New York’s Alvin Ailey Studios and the Strand Theater in San Francisco. She also began classical voice training at the age of 10.
