Last weekend, the Harker Dance Company and Kinetic Krew traveled to Long Beach, Calif. to compete at the West Coast Elite Dance Nationals, which also featured elite dance teams from across the country. Both teams, competing as one group, placed third in Silver Large Jazz category for “What is This Feeling,” choreographed by Harker dance teachers Rachelle Haun and Jill Yager, and Kinetic Krew placed second overall in High School Character for “Super Mario,” choreographed by Haun. Kinetic Krew’s performance was also rated highly enough to perform at the awards gala on the final night of the competition. In addition to the team wins, sophomore soloist Ava Ding placed second in the Silver division, in a field of 80 dancers.
“As this was our first time attending a national competition and only our fourth dance competition ever, placing at all is a huge feat,” Haun said. “Placing second in the nation and making the gala when placed against really incredible high school programs is a huge feat for Kinetic Krew.”
