In late October, fifth grader Ameya Desai was featured in The Week Junior, a weekly news magazine for readers aged 8 to 14. The magazine mentioned Desai’s podcast, “Far From Home: Stories of Forced Migration,” for which she won back-to-back NPR Student Podcast Challenges. The first episode chronicled her grandfather’s forced migration from Uganda, and the follow-up told the story of her neighbor’s grandmother, Linda Horikawa, who survived the World War II-era Japanese-American prison camps. Desai was also recently interviewed by the UK children’s podcast Yoto Daily for an episode that is scheduled to go live in late December, and will also appear on Yoto’s Download podcast early next year.
