Over the weekend, Adi Parige ’11 received the Jury Short Film Award at the Alameda International Film Festival for “The Lascar,” a short film he wrote and directed in New Zealand, where he has lived and worked as a filmmaker since 2021. The film follows the story of an Indian sailor, known as a lascar, whose sealing gang is abandoned on the coast of Aotearoa (the Maori name for New Zealand) in 1799. The screening of the film was attended by fellow alums Emma Blickenstaff ’09, Tariq Jahshan ’12, Sean Martin ‘11, Alex Underwood ’08 and Scott Underwood ’10, as well as performing arts technical theater teacher Brian Larsen.
