Last month, two Harker students received accolades at the regional National History Day competition in Sacramento. Junior Felix Chen was named a California State Champion in the senior division individual exhibit contest for his project, titled “The Very Bulwark of Our Republic,” which covered the importance of the common school movement. Eighth grader Augusta Chen, Felix’s sister, was the champion in the junior division’s historical paper category for her paper on the pivotal Title IX law that prohibited gender-based discrimination in school sports programs.
As champions in their respective categories, both Felix and Augusta will travel to College Park, Md., next month for the NHD National Contest.
