Helen Gu, grade 11, was recently named the first-place winner of Narrative Magazine’s 10th annual High School Writing Contest for her poem, “Mooncakes,” which she composed in Jennifer Sirganian’s Art of Poetry and Fiction class. This contest has received submissions from students across the United Staes and in 55 countries, including Ghana, China, Ukraine, Peru and the Philippines. Entries were judged by Narrative’s editorial staff. Founded in 2003, Narrative Magazine publishes fiction, nonfiction and poetry by new and upcoming writers and hosts a variety of writing contests each year.
