Junior Shreya Vemulapalli was recently profiled in the Los Angeles Times High School Insider for her work in alleviating struggles associated with cancer through her nonprofit, Cancel. Cancer. Culture., founded in 2023.

In the piece, Vemulapalli details how her experience losing her father to cancer revealed to her the stigmas that surround cancer and those living with it. “Going through that secondhand experience and being exposed to cancer for a large percentage of my life, it really taught me how cancer is viewed in society,” she told the story’s author, Emma Luu.
