The Harker Table Tennis Club – made up of junior Xianyao He, sophomore Anchit Nayak and froshes Randy Hui and Sophie Shen – recently placed third in the Bay Area Table Tennis School (BATTS) League, among eleven elite K-12 Bay Area table tennis programs.
“The Bay Area is the strongest region for table tennis in the U.S., and our league includes several players who represent Team USA at the World Championships,” said He, who also serves as the club’s vice president.
The team began its season in October of last year, going 4-1 and earning a spot in the league playoffs, where they eventually fell to the Hopkins Hawks. Nevertheless, they placed third in the league due to their consistently solid play and high seeding during the season.
Over the course of the season, the club was led by seniors Sid Biswas and David He, who respectively serve as its president and secretary. Team members attributed much of their success to their leadership.
“The level of competition in the BATTS league is world-class,” said He. “While we fell just short of the finals this year, our 4-1 record shows that Harker remains a powerhouse. With our returning talent and a strong new recruit joining the ranks, we have a very good chance at the BATTS League Championship next year.”
