[UPDATED] Eighth grader takes top prize in Junior Innovators Challenge

Last week, eighth grader Tina Jin took the top prize in the Thermo Fisher Scientific Junior Innovators Challenge. Jin’s project, which netted her a $25,000 award, aims to increase access to clean water through a filtration system that uses animal bones, making it usable virtually anywhere in the world. The findings of her experiments were verified by the San Jose Water Company, which tested the filter and found the resulting water potable.
