San Francisco-based artist Ana Teresa Fernández, the 2025-26 Dickinson Endowment artist-in-residence, will begin her residency next week. Fernández will spend her residency at workshops and collaborations with students at the middle and upper school campuses that will continue through November, culminating in a special lecture to students in December.
Born in the Mexican city of Tampico, Tamaulipas, Mexico, Fernández grew up in California and earned her MFA from the San Francisco Art Institute in 2006. Through performance art, paintings and installations, Fernández has explored themes of women’s rights, the struggles and ingenuity of immigrant works and the implications of borders. Solo exhibitions of her work have been showcased at such places as The Armory Show in New York City, the Catharine Clark in San Francisco, Centro Nacional de las Artes in Mexico City and Greatmore Studios in Cape Town, South Africa. She has also been featured in group exhibitions across the United States. Her film work has won awards at the San Diego Latino Film Festival, the Honolulu International Film Festival and the Arizona International Film Festival.
